Masilonyana Trading Enterprise provides legal, financial, and governance support to The Gearsh Lodge, founded by Nhlanhla Mahlangu. Established in 2020 as a response to the housing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Masilonyana has grown into a 100% Black youth- owned enterprise committed to structured compliance and community empowerment.
With executive management led by Dominic Mahlangu and a focus on inclusive hiring, the enterprise ensures strong community engagement. Fully aligned with B-BBEE standards, Masilonyana qualifies for youth empowerment incentives and actively contributes to local upliftment through its support of ventures like The Gearsh Lodge.
The Gearsh Lodge offers 15 well-appointed guest rooms starting at approximately R300 per night, catering to both business and leisure travelers with flexible booking options including hourly, nightly, and weekly stays.
Each room is clean, secure, and designed for comfort, featuring cozy bedding, in-room appliances, and vibrant décor. Guests can enjoy a private plunge pool on a sunny deck, a modern reception and lounge area, and convenient amenities such as on- site laundry, daily housekeeping, and complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi.
The lodge is powered by solar energy with battery backup, ensuring uninterrupted service without load- shedding. Enhanced security includes a secure electronic gate, 24/7 perimeter protection, and ample on-site parking with 22 marked spaces.
The Gearsh Lodge holds an official 1-star grading certificate from the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), affirming national standards for quality and service.
In 2023, the lodge earned 3rd place in the National Youth in Tourism Leadership Competition, recognized for innovation and potential as a youth-led business. Backed by Masilonyana Trading Enterprise, the lodge is committed to continuous improvement, with recent upgrades - including a modernized reception and enhanced staff training - supporting its goal to achieve higher star ratings.
The lodge’s success story has gained local and national attention as a model of youth- driven excellence in rural hospitality, building trust with guests, partners, and government agencies.
Each room’s hand-painted safari scene, created by local artist Mr. Fannie Mkhabele, creates an authentic African bush ambiance. These unique visuals connect guests with Limpopo’s natural heritage and set the lodge apart from standard accommodations.
The lodge grows its own vegetables on a nearby farm, supplying fresh, organic produce for guest meals. This not only guarantees healthy, farm-fresh dining experiences but also promotes local food security and sustainability.
Planned Upgrades & Expansion: To achieve a 2-star TGCSA rating and beyond, The Gearsh Lodge is preparing to introduce solar- heated water systems and enhance its online booking platform to improve guest convenience and comfort.
The lodge also plans to increase its capacity by adding five new guest rooms, bringing the total to 20, and constructing a small conference hall to accommodate business meetings and workshops— opening new revenue streams and meeting growing demand.
Sustainability & Long-Term Growth: A green transformation is central to the lodge’s vision, with plans to install additional solar panels, implement rainwater harvesting, upgrade to full solar energy, and expand the organic garden.
These eco-friendly initiatives will reduce operating costs and enhance the lodge’s appeal as an eco- tourism destination. Continued infrastructure and security upgrades, including expanded parking, automated gates, and advanced safety systems, support a premium guest experience. Guided by Masilonyana Trading Enterprise,
all expansion efforts are managed with strong compliance and governance to ensure sustainable growth and lasting community impact.
